Trying to cut PIR boards can be very tricky, often requiring significant time and effort when attempted with a hand-saw or knife. However, with the introduction of the new Cold Cutting Insulation Wire, we’re consigning this arduous task to the history books.
The Cordless Cold Wire Insulation Cutter Wire is designed to work perfectly with our Cold Cut Insulation Cutter. This cutting machine features a brushless motor, ensuring longer run times and enhanced portability thanks to its battery operation, making it great for jumping between sites and reducing the effort required for cutting challenging foam boards.
The vertical wire allows for cuts up to 650 cm in length and 275 mm in thickness, with a max angle of 45° on both the X and Y axes. The break arm release ensures precise, swift, and consistent cuts - every time!

PIR and PUR materials are unsuitable for hot wire cutting because it can release unpleasant fumes and can’t cut through the foil on both sides of the board as the foil is resistant to thermal cutting. Cold-cutting is the correct and safest way to do it.
Even if you do manage to cut a PIR board with a hot wire cutter, it wouldn’t last long and will only be effective for a few cuts.
Really, hot wire tools are only suitable for cutting regular Styrofoam, without aluminium foil. If you need a cutter for non-aluminium-coated Styrofoam, check out our range of hot wire foam cutters.
