Premium Trade Quality Solar Reflective - Bitumen Aluminium Paint

Solar Reflective Bitumen Aluminium Paint is used to overcoat bitumen based surfaces to protect them against degradation. Acts as a finish coat that decorates, protects and preserves, enhancing the lifespan of bitumen-type roofing materials.

Carbosil Bitumen Aluminium Solar Reflective Paint for over coating bitumen-based surfaces such as roofing felt and substrates including asbestos, brick, wood and metal. It protects surfaces from heat and UV light damage so it makes a practical, decorative and solar reflective coating. Carbosil will enhance the lifespan of bitumen-type roofing materials.

Carbosil gives a flexible, heat resistant and solar reflecting coating, with outstanding weather resistance and durability. It is also used for general applications on steelwork and timber (where there is no handling of the painted object).

Our bitumen aluminium is ideal for roofing, storage tanks, silos and stable felt as well as caravans and mobile homes. Because it reflects UV light and heat, it can also help reduce fungal growth. Buildings without insulation such as stables, industrial/commercial buildings, garages and animal housing can become extremely warm under the heat of the sun…even here in the UK.

Benefits of Bitument Aluminium paint include:

  • Reflects heat in the summer and insulates in winter
  • Reduces roof temperatures which lowers energy costs
  • Protects surfaces from heat and UV light damage
  • Gives durable weather protection
  • Provides a decorative, preservative finish
  • Surfac

Coverage

Coverage of 13-15sq mtr per ltr. Coverage can be affected by such variables as type and condition of substrate, type of application equipment and individual method of application. It is recommended two coats are applied with a minimum of 24 hours of drying time per coat.

Where to use it?

Carbosil solar reflective roof paint, which reflects the rays of the sun will help to reduce the internal temperature making conditions safer and more comfortable. Similarly, painting metal silos and storage tanks with Carbosil Bitumen Aluminium Solar Reflective Paint can help keep contents cooler.

Often used on motor homes and caravan roofs and as solar paint for flat roofs, our solar reflective coating helps keep interiors cool, which results in reduced energy costs on cooling systems.

Not only do solar rays affect the internal temperature, but they also cause damage to the surface. Exposure to the sun’s heat and UV rays dries out a bituminous surface making it brittle and prone to cracking. Coating with our solar reflective paint will help to prevent this, improving the longevity of the building or structure.

What to Avoid

Do not use for non-static drinking water containers.
Use a mask during application
Bitumen paint could bleed through other paints applied on top of it. Apply a primer before in this instance.

Prepare your Surface

Like any surface being prepared to be coated it is very important that the surface is sound this includes being clean and free from dust. This will significantly improve the integrity of the finished application. If you require long-term protection the treatment must be free from rust, removed with a wire brush and remove; products such as zinc phosphate or red lead. If the surface is new and overly smooth, treat it with a primer or roughen the surface with a wire brush.

Directions for use

Timber surfaces to be painted should be clean, dry and free from loose and flaking material.
Felt should firmly fixed with Carbobond Felt Adhesive. Old cracked Bitumen should be removed and replaced with Carboblack Bitumen.
Avoid the inhalation of dust. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding.
Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960’s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
All ferrous surfaces must be clean and free from oil, grease, mill scale, rust and existing coatings. This is best achieved by grit blasting, although thorough wire brushing can be sufficient.
Some rust removers based on phosphoric acid tend to leave an electrically insulating film on ferrous metals and are advisable not be used, or removed with a cleaner.
Previously painted surfaces or new timber must be abraded to provide a “key”.

Application:

Best results are obtained in warm (minimum 10°C), dry conditions.

Mix thoroughly for approximately 2 minutes using a drill stirrer. A wooden batten at least 25mm wide is also ideal.
Apply an even coat using a brush or short pile roller.
Supplied at application viscosity. For cleaning use White Spirit.
A minimum of two coats are recommended. This will prolong the life and performance of the coating.
For application onto wooden surfaces, a minimum of two coats is recommended.
