Leigh Centurions 21-Man Squad:
Looking to recreate another strong performance after their 12-6 win over Wigan Warriors, Leigh Centurions hope to open their 2020 season with a BANG.
In their past 6 previous meetings with the Rams, Leigh have won 5 out of the 6. Full-back Gregg McNally is only 1-point away from achieving a 1000-point career milestone and he will be looking to break that barrier against opponents Dewsbury.
The 2019 season was tough and didn’t go as expected for the Centurions. After a defeat in the semi-finals of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup followed by a loss to Featherstone Rovers in the Elimination Final of the Championship play-offs, a team refresh was needed to breathe some new life into the squad.
New signings making the first senior Leigh appearances are Alex Gerrard; Ben Hellewell; Matty Wildie; Nick Glohe, Craig Mullen; Callum Field and Cameron Scott who’s on loan from the black whites Hull FC.
Ones to Watch:
Dewsbury Rams – Will Oakes
The Rams have been very busy during the off-season and one signing which could be the key to an impressive 2020 season is Will Oakes who is on loan from Hull Kingston Rovers. Oakes debuted for KR back in 2016 and scored 10 tries in 24 appearances. He has been on dual-registration and loan with York City Knights for the last two-seasons crossing for 14 tries in 24 games.
Leigh Centurions - Jarrod Sammutt
The Maltese international returns to the Championship after a year with our local rivals Wigan Warriors. He made an instant impact 10 years ago, when he arrived to the British game with North Wales Crusaders back in 2010.
Sammut gained the reputation as one of the most creative and dynamic halves in the game. Not short on experience, the 32-year-old has also made strong impressions at the likes of Bradford Bulls, Wakefield Trinity, Featherstone Rovers and Workington Town.
His most recent stint in the Championship saw him guide London Broncos to a shock promotion into the Super League after a Million Pound Game victory over a challenging Toronto Wolfpack side.
Hopefully he can repeat this at Centurions for the 2020 Season.
