As reported by the BBC, Jaguar Land Rover, has announced plans to invest half a billion pounds in improvements and upgrades to their historic Halewood factory. They are increasing the production of electric vehicles while continuing to produce the existing combustion and hybrid models.
First announced in 2023, JLR is moving closer towards making their first emission-free model at the Halewood factory in early 2025. The investment will see production increase to 500 vehicle bodies per day.
This is part of a £15bn global investment from JLR in electric vehicles. It has not yet been confirmed which model will be the first emission-free vehicle but we are excited to see it when it is released.
Tata Motors, which owns JLR, has also invested £18bn towards its target of ensuring that all its vehicles produced after 2030 are electric only. This is a significant step forward for those advocating for net zero, as a company of JLR's size committing to electric vehicles provides a major boost to the cause.
The investment in the plant was discussed by Barbara Bergmeier, the executive director of industrial operations, where she stated that Halewood would become the company’s first “ all-electric production facility”. When talking about Halewood as a whole she said "that the site had been the heart and soul of JLR in the north-west for well over two decades”
